St. Malachi 5 miler

This has to be one of the largest attended running races in the state which happens to bring out all of the fastest runners around. The proceeds go to a great cause and Hermes does a nice job of dealing with the thousands of runners that show up. They re-routed the course this year and we started out running over the Detroit Superior bridge into Downtown then made a few left and right turns which put us on the downhill going behind the Browns  Stadium and up past the Science Center to E.9th and then left to Voinovich park where the big ore freighter William Mather is docked. Then it's back up to the Science Center, up the long hill past the Stadium and then down into the flats area under a big bridge and brick roads, back up out of the flats, over the Detroit Superior bridge where it turns right to finish on the South side of St. Malachi's, Nice course, but challenging, which is good.

I ended up finishing with a time of 32:21 (6:28 pace) which was good for 14th in my age group out of 137 and 100th overall out of 2,337. I haven't been doing alot of speed training, just basically getting anerobic on the hills on trail runs, and doing lots of tempo paced runs. Speed work will be coming a little later to prepare for triathlon season.

Looks like a nice week coming up, time to get out on the bike!
